Awesome book. I have a copy and bought this for my girlfriend, who's going through similar stuff. If you have chronic pain, well worth it. Pain stuff you've probably already heard of, but does excellent job of how to find employment to work around your medical issues.

Amazing Resource

As a Social Worker, I have worked with people who have suffered from chronic pain, and did not know what resources to offer them other than to listen to them and empathize. This book, Pain Tracking, is now the resource with which I can provide them. It gives both understanding about the reality of their pain, and something to do about it; Allowing a person empowering strategies to begin the path to manage their pain. I wish I had access to this resource years ago, but am glad it exists now, and now know how better to assist someone who suffers from chronic pain. It is practical and smart and also has light-hearted moments helping a person figure out what helps and makes their pain worse. It is inspiring and useful. It is also useful for clinicians to get a better understanding of what someone is going through who suffers from chronic pain.

The Book people with chronic pain have been waiting for!

This book changed my life, and for the first time in over 20 years gave me hope for continuing to live with chronic pain AND I began to create note only a more accurate understanging of what my daily life with pain was really like, but (YAAYYY!!) what things I could do to myself (my OWN solutions) each day to deal better with the challenges the pain brought me. What an empowering book this is!!!! And it isn't about anyone but you!! And the solutions are YOURS! and with the help of paintracking, it is finally possible to find what will help you, uniquely. Can't say enough about this book and the work of Deborah Barrett. It has made a dramatic change in my life. Using the beta version of the software being developed to companion the book, I can see that my over-all challenges - pain, fatique, mood.....have actually been reduced from regular 9 & 10s to regular 4 & 5s. This book is a guidebook, and will likely not lose its helpfulness over many, many, many readings. A+++

Don't Mistakenly Think it's Only About "Leadership"

OK, I'll have to admit it, I HATE those silly "leadership" books that sell thousands of copies "teaching" you to be a better time manager, people manager or self manager. Frankly, most of that stuff is TOO silly and of little value.

The problem with this fine book is that the publishers are promoting it in the management and "leadership" literature as a business/management type title, and in fact the author does give seminars to businesses, hopefully to keep the ideas percolating. HOWEVER, Ken's amazing little slices of life, stories, unexpected connections and just plain surprising new ideas go FAR beyond management, business, etc. to relationships of ALL kinds-- significant others, parents and kids, yes/work, as well as friends and "enemies."

This book is breathtaking in scope and incisive in insights. It's like "Profiles in Courage" that made you generalize and think about courage inductively. Same here-- there is an amazing series of "ahas" that happen about the phenomenon of trust itself, how it works, what it does, how it is important. It even touches on the spiritual in a way, in the form of "Who can you REALLY trust???" With so many deceptions around today, so much spinning we see everyday everywhere, and so much information (who knows what's really been vetted?), looking deeply at trust is timely and wonderful.

This isn't dry or word bending/ show off philosophy! It is a fun read, a page turner, you'll laugh and say WOW, I wish I'd known that when... Buy it! You'll find many perspective changing lessons that will bring you a lot more success and joy in both little and "big" relationships. Wondering? Read this book! :)

I enjoyed the stories. Yes we can all read pithy novels and dry instruction manuals; but I have more fun with parables. So while having fun I also was amazed at how much I was unaware of when it came to trusting others and their trusting me. I wish I had this knowledge as my children were growing up to share with them. It may seem small and simple, but just try one of these ideas a week and you will be surprised at the change in your life. Buy it, read it, you will be glad that you did.... I am.

Trust me. This book could help make the world a better place.

I feel it is my duty to preface my comments with an admission that this will not be an "arms-length" review. The reason is, Ken Blanchard is a treasured friend of mine, and I co-authored "The On-Time, On-Target Manager" with him. On top of that, I know Martha Lawrence and I respect her literary abilities. I even received an autographed copy of the book to add to my many shelves of signed editions.

So, you may safely assume that I enjoy all of Ken's books, especially since they all meet my basic requirement: I read books that help me in my personal or professional life and offer a key nugget or nuggets that will impact me. TRUST WORKS offers plenty of nuggets, they are memorable, effectively communicated, and they can be easily applied.

Ken (and his coauthors) are known for telling engaging parables to make the key points...usually three or four basic ideas that build upon one another. While this book continues in that tradition, it is presented in two parts. Part I is the "parable" portion of the book. "A Tale of Trust" is the story of a family, their pets, and how they all employed the ABCD Trust Model to resolve their trust issues. Part II presents the "Trust Building Resources" readers will need to apply the principles in their relationships at home and in the workplace.

There is a tool the reader can use to assess his or her trustworthiness, and the authors suggest that the reader's partner or coworkers also be asked to use a similar form (also included in the book) to evaluate him or her. The reader would then compare the self-evaluation with those of others. This will be a wonderful exercise in self-discovery!

The ABCD Trust Model is quite brilliant. If you use it on a consistent basis, I believe this book will help you gain a better understanding of why and how "trust works," and why it is so important to build and maintain trust in all of your relationships. Buy it, read it, apply it!

About the Author

Manuel G. Gonzales is professor of History at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, California. A specialist in both Modern Europe and the American Southwest, he has been teaching the history of Mexicans in the United States since 1971. Dr. Gonzales received a PhD in Modern Italian History from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1972. He was a visiting professor of Chicano history in the Ethnic Studies department at UC Berkeley in 1993. He has published three books: Andrea Costa and the Rise of Socialism in the Romagna (1980), The Hispanic Elite of the Southwest (1989), and Mexicanos: A History of Mexicans in the United States (1999).

Cynthia M. Gonzales is an Education Specialist at Ygnacio Learning Center in Walnut Creek, California. A credentialed instructor, she has been teaching K-12 students since 1969. Ms. Gonzales received a BA in History from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1966 and a MA in Educational Administration from St. Mary's College of California in Moraga in 1996. She was Director of Education at Walnut Creek Hospital from 1985-1998.

In 2013 Ben moved to inner city Sydney. He found himself living in an apartment across from a cell tower. Soon after he started to experience acute symptoms. His physical, mental and spiritual health were profoundly affected. ‘Wiped out’ is the way he describes it.

The only place he was able to function was away from Wi-Fi, cell tower antenna’s and mobile devices. How could he be feeling this way? He began to search for the truth. He started to ask himself, “what don’t the telecom companies and mobile manufacturers want us to know”?

He realized that the adverse health effects of Wi-Fi, mobile devices, and cell towers were not being shared with the public. He realized that microwaves were altering our DNA 24/7. Using himself as the guinea pig, he started to study the effects of electromagnetic radiation. “I documented where I was, when I felt worse and what symptoms I was experiencing.” He substantiated his insights with research and during a two-year period spent heavily on products and mainstream and alternative therapies.

Ben Nowland intermingles a narrative which recounts his personal journey with science. He talks about being a ‘radiation refugee’ and encountering ‘The Hum”, a low frequency vibration which few people hear. The book is split into 6 sections:

Radiation Pollution Sickness.
Ben suggests instead of electromagnetic hypersensitivity, we should use the term ‘radiation pollution sickness’ (RPS) because it captures the reality of electromagnetic hypersensitivity as an environmental illness. He suggests that we are more likely to be disposed to RPS if we are one or more of the ‘four E’s’:

Empathetic
Exposed to EMF's
Have repressed emotions
Are exposed to environmental toxins such as mold and chemicals

Interesting ideas.
He explains that the Universe and all within it has an oscillation, a unique signature field and that the body-mind generates a non-linear waveform. The problem is that pulsed man-made EMF's produce a linear waveform. He compares how our body responds to microwave radiation to how we respond to discordant music, except that the consequences are far graver. He speaks of the “possible deleterious effects of microwaves on the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis” which affects the levels of certain hormones.

Is This A Book About Healing?
In the last section of the book Ben talks about his recovery. He talks about the importance of EMF avoidance and detox and suggests that a heavy metal detox and candida cleanse may be beneficial, and that a liver and gall bladder cleanse is also recommended. He suggests that the reader ask some questions, like how can I make the most of this opportunity? What are my glands and organs telling me? He also talks a little about chakra work, giving some exercises to do with the solar plexus and heart chakra.

This is the part of the book that interested me the most, but I’d liked to have seen more of this which is why I consider this book to be more of an account of one man’s journey with EMF's than a book about healing. At the time of writing there is only one other review on Amazon, but it does deserve more interest. By bringing spirituality into the equation this book brings some unique perspectives to the ‘EMF's and health’ issue, and for this reason alone it’s worth reading.

Very informative and worth sharing

Very informative and well-written book, with the author personal experiences with EMF radiation conveying an important message for humanity. Our health and the future of our children are at risk if we don`t make wiser choices in our overuse of technology. Our wi-fi computers and mobile phones might be slowly killing us. It is time for us to wake-up, get informed and take action.

shows great care for the health of his fellow humans

This book is a class act. The author has given us something which is compelling and engaging to read, clever and prosaic and at the same time, shows great care for the health of his fellow humans. It's a very personal and emotive account from the outset, whilst the science is thoroughly explored. The crux of Playing GOD lies with the author's loving account of his grandma's "direct knowing of what was healthy". Like past health fads and fashions the proliferation of 4G towers located within short distance of preschools can hardly be healthy nor grandma recommended. He uses the example of purchasers going from butter to margarine advertised by "men in white coats on the TV" then back to butter. Meanwhile grandma stayed with butter.

The cigarette parallel is explored. Cigarettes have a control group as there are those who do not smoke. With microwave radiation there is no control group. We are all exposed to varying degrees to Wi-Fi, cell phone and 3G/4G microwave towers.

Playing GOD has 28 chapters. I particularly enjoyed those capturing the author's personal experience and the interesting ideas presented in Chapter 5 Waveforms and Vibrations and later chapters. The larger format of Playing GOD makes it extremely readable. With the inclusion of scientific diagrams and teaching metaphors the author renders heavy physics concepts easily understandable. I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking to make sense of the wide-spread adoption of recent microwave communications technology and their health.

About the Author

Lorin Hochstein is a Lead Software Engineer at SendGrid Labs where he works on developing and deploying new products designed to make developers lives easier.Before joining SendGrid, Lorin was the Lead Architect for Cloud Services at Nimbis Services, a Computer Scientist at the University of California's Information Sciences Institute, and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Once upon a time, he conducted human subject experiments with programmers, but he hardly ever does that anymore, and his books are almost certainly not part of some elaborate software engineering experiment, why would you even think such a thing?Lorin has a B.Eng. in Computer Engineering from McGill University, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Boston University, and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Maryland.

René Moser is living in Switzerland with his wife and 3 kids, likes simple things that work and scale and earned an Advanced Diplomaof Higher Education in IT. Covers in good detail the 14 composition formulas in the book with pictures and paragraphs Descriptions of the necessary requirements exceeded my expectations. Would of liked more examples covering different situations however those described were well detailed. The paintings covered are wonderfull examples of her work detailing the fore thought involved using the composition formulas.
