Hot right? I thought so! The description alone sells this book! lol

The Best Parts:
Where do I start? This freaking book. From reading about Cassius before you get the sense that he is all knowing and arrogant and can get anything he wants, but reading this book you get to see a whole new side to him. There are very many romantic bones in his body, but the words that come out of his mouth are ten times better than any actions he could do. It’s like Shakespeare was put into a Dark Ones body. I knew that he loved Stephanie, and that his love was great, but I didn’t know he could LOVE like that.

This story has many twists and turns, but the fact that neither Stephanie nor Cassius waver from their love shows just how strong it is. That nothing can come between them, even when things do. There is so much to learn form this novel about the world of Dark Ones and Immortals. Especially with an ending that just add more to a confusing equation, but it also answers so many things.

The Worst Parts:
I wish there would have been more of a fight. I was in the mindset of Cassius when he thought that things were forgiven so easily and that he was restored so quickly. It seemed too simple, but even when things are explained more in depth, there really wasn’t a test in full. Cassius’ death was slightly overshadowed by Stephanie leaving and having the darkness. I didn’t feel that she truly understood what had happened. Even when they get a chance to talk about it, when Stephanie even asks to talk about it he doesn’t want to. He doesn’t want to remember her betraying him, but he still says where there is dark there is light. Then let this dark action be dispersed by the light of forgiveness, but you will never understand the forgiveness with out talking it out. That was the one thing that I felt was missing here. A true honest to god heart to heart about where they were after the stabbing.

Final Thoughts:
If you ever want to read an amazing novel about vampires, werewolves, and oh my goodness so many other beings, then this is the series for you. The next book to come out is for Alex, who is a hot, sexy, and sarcastic Siren. But the story I am most looking forward to is Mason. I want to know more about his and Genesis’ relationship and I want to see him genuinely happy :]

Overall a good read and set's up nicely for next book in the series.

This was a nice follow up to The Dark Ones. I struggled with the first part of the book and felt a little lost and unable to connect with Cassius and Stephanie's relationship. The second half really intrigued me and set's up nicely for Alex's and Mason's story.

What I loved: The world building that Rachel did in this book. I loved to see the complexities of the fantasy world start to come up. It was nice to see the struggle to co-exist with the human world for all the immortals and the sacrifices made to see truce between all beings.

I also loved learning more of Cassius's backstory. Learning what makes him tick and the struggles he had for centuries. I also loved learning about Sariel and how his actions has set everything in motion. In fact, my favorite relationship was Sariel and Cassius and hope this father/son bonding can continue throughout the series.

The second half of the book set up the possible war for the fate of humans and Immortals alike. Sariel's actions centuries earlier, created a fallen angel hell bent on plunging the world into darkness. I am excited to see this storyline play out and how it impacts Alex and Mason.

Overall a good read and set's up nicely for next book in the series.

A lot happened in this book. So much that I am still trying to figure it all out. All I know is that this group of immortals are in for one hell of a ride and I have to admit, I am a little nervous for them!

Cassius is a Dark One, or rather he was a Dark One. Now for the next 30 days he is human. He has to prove his love for Stephanie. The problem is he has always pushed his human feelings away. So now when all he has is human emotions, it is overwhelming. I have to say I actually liked this side of Cassius. It was amusing.

Stephanie has just found out that her whole existence has been a lie. She was raised to believe she was a Siren but now she knows the truth. But the only thing that matters to her is Cassius, the Dark One she has always loved.

There was so much that went on throughout this book and honestly a lot of it left me confused. I loved the twists that I wasn't expecting and I cannot wait to find out what is going to happen next. Because one thing is for sure, it is bound to be a hell of a ride.

* I can't wait to read Alex's and then Mason's book though!*

Easy to Understand

Bottom line is that this book is a MUST READ!

Block Party 5K1 Book Two by Al-Saadiq Banks picks up right where book one left off and again there is a major adrenaline rush filled within these pages. I thoroughly enjoyed both books, but book two definitely brought everything full circle and the a lot of questions were answered and there many OMG moments that had me anxiously awaiting to see what was going to happen next. What I enjoyed about this series was that this story was set in modern day theme and it made the story line that more enjoyable for me. I read all of the stories in this series and what makes Al-Saadiq different as a writer is because he is emotionally connected with these characters and they are extremely well developed to the point that the dialogue and verbiage are on point, everything is true to life. Bottom line is that this book is a MUST READ!

Just when you think Mr. Banks has done it all, he delivers again. 5k1 is the quintessential street book that vividly captures the tone of the streets today. The Mayor - one of the BEST characters in ANY series- is nearly outdone by the Black Charles Manson. In book two, he lives up to his name! You see why he's so feared. The international twist is a pleasant surprise too, as it deals with a very real social issue. All in all, Mr. BANKS shows why he is the king of this lit s***!

I can't say so much about 5K1, however I will only say you have to read it.

Everyone is trying to eat, however The Black Charles Manson is not TRYING TO SHARE!
If you didn't get it before he got out, you wont get it now.

I can honestly say reading Al-Saadiq novels since NO Exit he didn't leave one stone uncovered in this installment of Block Party.

Absolute great read from start to finish, you wont be disappointed at all.

A book, from management to employees, that insults its workforce on soooooo many levels

This reviewer remembers having gone to the office (at a then "Big 5 "accounting firm) one day back in 2000 and having found this so-called book (in actually this "book" more of a pamphlet than a book) on his desk. This reviewer's first reaction was to think it was a joke. He called one of his fellow staff members to ask if it was a joke and was quickly informed that every employee in the firm had received, like the reviewer, a copy of this "book" at his or her desk. Knowing that the distribution of this book on a wide level usually portends some massive "change" at the office this reviewer was not happy to find out it was not a joke. The reviewer was very tempted to throw out the book but knowing, based on the fact that everyone in the firm received, we could all be out of work it was wise to, instead, keep for something to do while unemployed (that moment came about four months after the book was passed out). After reading it, while unemployed, the reviewer developed a very negative opinion of it (the reasons for this are discussed below).

About 13 years later this reviewer saw an employee with this book (at another firm). He thought to himself, was this book really as bad as he remembered it? After all, he remembered it as one of the most insulting books he had ever read. Perhaps it was just a poor memory (and the years) playing a cruel joke. Hence he decided to re-read it again. Unfortunately, after reading it again, the memories were only found to be correct. This was truly one of the most insulting books this reviewer had to read, never mind having been given as a "gift". This was the case on so many levels.

First of all this "book" is written for 10 year olds, in terms of both style and content. The 80 "page" book had about three paragraphs per page and on just about every other page had a one page picture with a piece of cheese with some short pretentious "philosophical" statement in it (i.e., "move with the cheese and enjoy it", "old beliefs do not lead you to new chees", "having cheese makes you happy", etc.). It is remarkable how management would even think of giving something out to adults. What were they thinking? That their workforce consists of children who need to be guided by adults (i.e., management)? Insulting, to say the least.

As if this was not bad enough, per se, there is the story contained in the book. This is of mice who need to get used to the fact that things change and they need to adapt. Who over six years old does not know this? Does management think their workforce consists of idiots? Another vicious insult. In addition, the implication that employees are mere mice chasing pieces of cheese in a maze is another insult to their workforce. Does management really believe that this is all the workforce really is to them? Nothing more than rodents?

Another point that this book makes, implicitly, is that the workforce needs to accept this change, brought about by management, without question and with no critical eye in much the same way that the population of the Soviet Union had to accept the perpetual policy changes made by that nation's leadership without question or thought. Never mind that many of the changes brought by management, especially organizational changes, are more often without rhyme or reason. Another insult. In this reviewer's opinion this is the worst point, by far, that the book makes. It shows how little management thinks of any contributions its own workforce can make and how little its opinions matter to management.

In short, this book does nothing more than insult an entity's workforce in so many ways. Plus it shows how highly management views itself over and above its own workforce. After reading this, one can justifiably ask oneself if management would actually feed its workforce to cats if it lead to larger bonuses for themselves. The only positive benefit is that it makes all of this obvious to the workforce, in and by itself a valuable service.
