A highly addicting, wild, and erotic ride.

I suspect that CD Reiss somehow laced my e-reader with a powerful narcotic, because when it comes to her books, there is a very addicting quality to them. I read the Songs of Submission series a couple of months ago, and was completely engrossed by them. Reading Spin (Theresa's spinoff) was just as addicting, but a story and characters completely different. Since I can't prove she's slipped me some highly addictive drug, I'm left with the simple fact that Reiss is a brilliant writer. The way she strings sentences, scenes, thoughts, and emotions together truly brings you into another world and hooks you into whatever journey she's taking you on. If you are familiar with Reiss's books, then you know she holds nothing back, and her books are not for the light romance reader. If you are unfamiliar, be prepared for an intense, erotic read.
As for the story itself, I found the developing relationship between Theresa and Antonio absolutely fascinating. Between their off-the-charts chemistry, their spiraling and intermingling personalities, the opposition of their worlds, and their whirlwind erotic romance, they are a couple that is not easily forgotten. Add into that Theresa's mayoral candidate ex-fianc�, Theresa's director friend who gets herself into a whole lot of trouble, Antonio's sketchy and mysterious resume, and Antonio's questionable associates, and you've got yourself a story full of action and intrigue that flows non-stop from beginning to end, not a dull moment in sight.
As for the sex, as you might have expected, the sex is rough, it's dirty, it's erotic. You've been warned. But it somehow fits these two characters and their dynamic completely. The romance is well-written, and though the sex is detailed, it's not excessive and overly verbose. I do confess that the shower scene was a bit of a stretch (pun intended) for me, and I found myself laughing when the scene wasn't funny. But other than that, this crazy romance was oddly believable and definitely hot. And there is just something beautiful and sensual about Antonio and Theresa that comes across the pages, even when they're being rough.
Overall, Spin is a highly addictive and wild ride, filled with suspense, danger, and sex. Antonio and Theresa are off-the-charts in more ways than one (hot, smart, a bit crazy). The writing will draw you in and keep your attention from start to finish. The ending is not a cliffhanger, but more a here's-where-they-are-for-now, but you'll be okay with that until the next book.

Spin (book 1) opens up to glum life of Theresa Drazen, Tink, the career woman, good sister, loyal friend and forgiving ex-fianc�'s life. Six months prior she had found her then fianc�, District attorney and Mayor of Los Angeles candidate, Daniel in bed with his speechwriter. Since then she has maintained a friendship with her ex, continued her work as the head of client accounting for talent agency WDE and had her long-time friend and movie producer Katrina move in while taking on the job has her script supervisor on her free-time. But on the inside she is tired of being composed, tired of the status quo.

I loved Songs of Submission and eagerly awaited the release of this first book in her new series. The writing itself is very good and much better than you get in many romance novels but I just didn't connect with Spin and Theresa. Spin was more dark and violent mobster than sexy alpha male. We get a few glimpses into how he became "capo" of a crime family but his character is not nearly well developed enough for me to see him as anything more complex than a rich thug who has become obsessed with Theresa. She, of course, falls in love instantaneously because he is hot and smells like pine trees, completely ignoring the fact that at their first meeting he viciously broke a mans' nose and forced him to lick vomit off a car! There is not nearly enough history or back story for these two to believe that Theresa (or any woman) would do anything but run as far and as fast as she could to get away from him. As he stalks her and commits more acts of violence he proves himself to be an arrogant jerk who neither explains nor apologizes for his actions but instead either shuts down or outright lies when asked about them. She, as she begs for his attention and love proves herself to be desperate, weak and stupid. The side stories of her ex-fianc� and roommate are moderately interesting but not enough to offset the problems with the main story. I will probably read the other books in the series to see if she can salvage this mess but only because I so thoroughly enjoyed the first series. If you have not read Songs of Submission I strongly encourage you to forget this series and read that instead.
