Finally! A Systematic Theology for Everybody...

This compilation from Dr. Tony Evans is a much needed and long overdue resource. Being over twenty years in the making, "Theology You Can Count On" effectively blends theological depth and practical application which is unfortunately not characteristic of most works in this family. Most Systematics are long on information but they tragically fail to bridge the biblical teaching to the Christian in such a way that will inform their mind and impact their walk.
This massive book(almost 1400 pages)is no mere collection of sermons. It is a serious presentation that is a joy to read and is equally easy to understand. Each division of theology is broken up into smaller, digestible chapters with tools for personal application and group discussion. These combine to make "Theology You Can Count On" an excellent choice for personal study, small group, Sunday School, and Bible Institute. This comprehensive resource can even be used in one-on-one discipleship, eliminating the need to purchase multiple smaller books.
"Theology You Can Count On" though very full is not by design a scholarly treatise. And as with any theological writing, one may find points of disagreement. It is however throughly evangelical and gives great evidence to Dr. Evans' very high view of Scripture.
In conclusion, quoting Dr. Evans: "Theology, when properly understood, ought to be challenging, inspiring, transforming, and even fun." And if these are what you want from your study of God then "Theology You Can Count On" is for you. Now go have fun!

Makes theology easy to understand

As expected, Tony Evans has taken a very complicated subject and made it understandable. This is a very long book, about the size of the Bible, but it is broken up into short chapters. Each chapter ends with questions that make it useful for group or personal study. What I really like is that each chapter has a "Picture This" chart that explains the topic studied, with Scripture passages that relate to that topic.
The reason I enjoy Tony Evans is that he explains things with stories and examples. This is an awesome book if you want to "know what you believe." I think that Christians are being dumbed down today, and not doing their own study. This book will make it possible for all of us to grasp important theological concepts.
The only warning I would give, is that the information in this book is basically a collection of the books in his "Understanding God" series. If that is not an issue for you, then this book is highly recommended!

a deeper understanding of the Word, the Trinity, and the Church

I have uncovered much hidden information about the Trinity, The Word, and The importance of the Church and its people. This book is helpful for anyone whether you have many years of studying the Bible or not at all. This is a highly recommended book for anyone who desires to know more, to understand more, and to encourage others in their relationship with Christ as their Savior. I found many helpful insights to questions and concerns about what has been taught or preached in sermons or blogs. I truly enjoy the writing style of Tony Evans, he brings stories to alight the truths of the Bible. I will recommend this book to anyone I encounter who wants answers to questions of the Word and the Trinity and Angels and Christ and the Church.
